Twin Lakes SUP Rally

We picked the right weekend. Our goal was to paddle amidst brilliant shades of yellow and orange, yet in weather that favors shorts and a t shirt. If the water was smooth, we’d just consider it a bonus. Yes, the aspen’s were peaking, and as you can tell from the photos, we were all wearing board shorts and t shirts, because the air temp was just about 70 degrees. Up until the last 30 minutes of paddling, the water was total glass. What else could you ask for…maybe a cold beer at the end of the day.

The lineup ranged from a 14′ Boardworks Ohana Racer, to a 10’6″ custom hollow wooden SUP from Carve Surfboards out of Lyons, CO.
Paul Darrah is warming up for the half day paddle around the perimeter of Twin Lakes.
Jackson Kayak SUP designer, Ken Hoeve’s paddling the latest JK SUP creation, The
SUPerFISHal. Stable, loads of features for serious anglers, and the price is right!
The views never get old. 30 miles from here is a little place called Aspen.
Water levels were low.  So low in fact, that there were almost 2 separate lakes! This photo shows the channel that connects the West lake to the East lake.
Katharine Noll’s paddling her new Morelli and Melvin 12’6″ race board. I don’t think that there is a better SUP out there for an area like Twin Lakes. It’s fast, efficient and does well in some small chop if the wind kicks up.
Interlachen is a turn-of-the-century ghost resort that has been historically preserved, and is now a really cool landmark to visit.
SUP is for the dogs…well, small dogs at least.
The golden colored aspen’s are amazing. Can’t wait to return next fall.
CKS owner Earl Richmond enjoys the weekend.

I came to visit Colorado last Fall 2012. I have to say that trip was one of the most memorable ones that I ever had.
