The SnapDragon Designs Armortex Spray Skirt Review

There’s nothing worse than sticking a line on a huge waterfall or drop, only to have your skirt blow. Big water presents the same challenge as waves and holes can suck the skirt right off of your boat. I have even heard a story around the campfire about a local Crested Butte boater who hucked off a 40 foot falls into a cauldron, only to have his skirt blow. The exit to the cauldron was a 60+ foot falls and so he had to just pull the skirt back on and run the big falls with a boat full of water. Fortunately for me, I’ve paddled with a Snap Dragon Armortex skirt for the last several years and it has never come off in a uncomfortable position.

Pros:

  • Bomber construction with super durable Armortex neoprene in the heavy wear locations.
  • Minimal stitching creates less opportunities for leakage on the deck and bone dry kayaking experience.
  • It never comes off

Cons:

  • I can’t speak to play boaters looking for over thruster performance, but there are no cons I’ve experienced on the creeks.

The Verdict:

If you are looking for a ridiculously durable, long lasting, bone dry spray skirt that wont implode while running big rapids, then this is the one.

This video has made it’s way around a few different paddling forums  and blog reviews…and for good reason. Upper Cherry Creek is a place where you want to eliminate any chance of error happening. This would be a good example of a time when you don’t want to have your skirt implode, especially the part in Cherry Bomb Gorge. Fortunately for Joe, he has his Armortex on, and styles his lines.
